Remember the Future, Live Fearlessly

LiveFearlesslyI borrowed this saying from church last night:

Remember the future, live fearlessly.

Easier said than done, but when we realize what our future is as Christians, we can truly can live fearlessly. We remember who’s world this is. It’s not ours. It’s not the governments.

One bad news report can often make us fear our future. The stock market crashes and we worry about our financial future. We hear things of war around the world, and we worry about the future. God tends to shrink from our perspective when we think of these things and let the future worries get the best of us.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them. -Psalm 8:3-4

God is our Creator and when we remember Him, we get smaller not God. When we have confidence in God’s control of the future, then we can press steadily on through life fearlessly.

Look at the example of Jesus. He knew God’s plan for him. He knew he was awaiting him. Knew he would suffer and yet he still pressed on fearlessly because he knew the ending.

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.” – Psalm 91:14

When we remember the future that God promises us with Him. That he is faithful no matter what comes our way, we can find courage to face whatever makes us fearful in the moment.

So what are some practical ways to live fearlessly.

Be Bold
God calls us to be bold. We tend to be timid in our actions, because we don’t want to make mistakes. But we won’t do everything correctly. We will make mistakes. But what matters is we stepped out in faith, believing God will help us.

For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. -2 Timothy 1:7

Walk with God throughout your day
Take God with you everywhere you go. If you are entering a situation that makes you fear, ask God to calm your spirit. Talk to God, listen to him. And he will guide you.

We will have doubts and fears
Doubts and uncertainties will arise. The enemy knows that we will struggle with these and he will tell us this every step of the way. We can often be serving God and everything seems great and then out of nowhere there will be a time period when that doubt and fear will feel overwhelming to us. We can realize that our battle is not in the physical realm.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

God is for us
God is on our side. He has our back. He will never abandon us. He is always there, even when we turn our back on him. Our God will reach out a hand and lift us above the waves when things are getting rough.

If God is for us, who can be against us? -Romans 8:31

Our future is bright and we can look to God’s word to know this. God promises and eternity in his presence if we just believe in his son Jesus Christ. Remembering that future that awaits us, we can live fearlessly today.
